“Judeo-Christian” decoder ring

Yesterday a USAF officer colleague posted an article to his Facebook page that I thought worthy of short commentary.

For context: the colleague is a Lt Col, squadron commander, and very open evangelical Christian.

Additional context: this “Trump is right about Africans” piece is penned within days of Trump’s racist attacks on Somali-Americans and immigrants.

Some highlights:

^short: Africa is shit hole and libs hate America and “our culture.”

short: they bring their shit to our countries and they not like us.

“they not like us, they not like us”…and they never will be like us.

Ok, so the prior sections were gross and bad, but the highlighted portion is where the mask really falls off. This is just “the 14 words”* said less clearly.

You see, Democrats & Leftists want to destroy America, and our white, Western, “Judeo-Christian” culture through immigration by those people.

^(reminder: a unit commander posted this. He’s in charge of dozens to low triple-digit airmen of all faiths, ethnicities, home countries, and both Republicans & Democrat/Leftists)

Christian Nationalist Decoder ring

So the decoder ring is simply that 99% of the time you see “Judeo-Christian” it 1) serves as a stand in for white nativism and 2) is a tell/cover that what follows is usually evil shit that is wholly at odds with the teaching of the New Testament.

So what?

The “so what” is only that unless you’re trying to dog whistle to white nativists, don’t use the word. It’s a relatively new term of always dubious historical/cultural accuracy.

A person cannot post this kind of hateful shit covered in “judeo Christian” and expect that we take their faith seriously because they either have 1) a room-temp IQ to context or 2) are the worst kind of religious hypocrite.

If one’s personal “Christian” beliefs conflict with supporting your gay, Muslim, African-immigrant airmen/soldiers/sailors/marines, get the fuck out of the service.**
